We Wear the Mask
We wear the mask that grins and lies,
It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile
And mouth with myriad subtleties,
Why should the world see our cries?
And count all our tears and sighs?
No, let them see only our smiles,
So we wear a mask to tell lies.
We smile through our cries,
and with lies, sweet little lies,
Yes we all wear a little disguise,
So none would realize.
We sing of heaven living through hell,
As we hide the vile, time passes by the mile,
But let the world dream otherwise,
Till our tortured souls die.
